Darcy is a Bowman, ND native, graduated from ND State College of Science and worked in the dental industry for nearly a decade following college. In 1995, she founded Payroll Express, Inc. to manage the Human Resources for small to mid-size businesses, becoming the “off-site HR department”; handling everything from hiring, benefits, and performance reviews to exits and terminations. And, yes, accurate and on-time payroll too. In 1998, she founded Overland Payroll, Inc., to manage the payroll and human resources for construction and seasonal businesses.
Along with her husband, Todd, and the rest of the team, Payroll Express became the region’s premier small business HR service and within years, built new offices “the stable” on Sheyenne Street in West Fargo. In 2020, Darcy and Todd sold Payroll Express, Inc. to a local staffing agency and have been enjoying the freedom of retirement ever since. Congratulations on your success – and THANK YOU for all of your generous contributions to our Club!

While growing up, Zach worked alongside his father at Paxton signs from 5th grade through college. Taught by his grandfather and dad, Zach learned how to hand letter vehicles and signs. In 1985, Zach installed the first version of a computer based vinyl cutter for his dad. Eventually, Zach ended up moving to Moorhead to attend MSU and pursue a degree in small business administration with a minor in accounting. Between graduating high school and attending college, Zach’s grandfather taught him how to bend neon. By bending neon in the late hours of the night, Zach was able to pay for some of his college. Eventually, Zach was recruited by his father’s cousin Paul Paxton, to work at Custom Graphics. In 2016, general manager Zach took over the family business after the untimely passing of founder Paul Paxton. Since that time, Zach has lead Custom Graphics to expand further into the digital printing and signage industry.

ABOUT | Cindy moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area after high school and originally planned to build a career in the medical field. But by the age of 19, after working in a hotel and travel agency in the area, she realized her passion was travel. Beginning in the mid-1980s, Tyo worked as a travel agency manager in Crookston, MN, and Fargo-Moorhead. Tyo then spent several years in Los Angeles, CA, before returning to Fargo – first to manage her current agency, then becoming the agency’s owner in 2003.
Cindy has found herself in elite and rarified company, as one of the only people ever to win both of Travel Leaders’ highest honors: Associate of the Year and The Golden Legacy Award. The Golden Legacy Award ranks as the single highest honor any Travel Leaders Associate may receive and celebrates the award winner’s lifetime career achievements.
How does the reality of your job differ from people’s perception of it?
Because I travel the world for work: I’m just on vacation. In some ways it makes sense, as I truly love what I do, but I’m putting in 12-14 hour days in meeting rooms and on busses when I travel for work, like most people who travel for work. I just so happen to be having my meetings in Cancun or Prague!
What’s your “why”?
The moment I see everything I love about travel in someone else’s expression for the first time. Like my son when he got done bungee jumping for the first time in New Zealand to observing the transformation of a client as they conquer their fear of heights to go zip lining in Costa Rica. The knowledge and experience gained, and the doors opened through travel is priceless.

I’m Kent Satrang, your CEO at Petro Serve USA. Petro Serve USA is a diversified cooperative, founded in Moorhead, Minnesota in 1934. We are a locally-owned, diverse energy cooperative owned by its members. Petro Serve USA is the region’s finest energy supplier specializing in 100% American-made fuels. We are Fargo–Moorhead’s largest supplier of home heating, commercial and agricultural fuel, and propane and lubricating oil. Our passion for store growth is rooted in the belief that America needs to lessen its dependence on foreign oil. This explains our name, Petro Serve USA, and our registered tagline “Helping America Fuel Better”. It is our conviction that our neighbors and farm customers/owners, right here in our own backyard, can and must produce renewable fuels like ethanol and soy diesel to stop the importation of Middle East oil. America imports almost $1 billion in oil each and every day, much of it from countries that oppose freedom and our American way of life. At Petro Serve USA, we’ve worked hard to develop new high-tech blender pump infrastructure, and innovate national and local legislation.
When I got into the business in 1980, it was “location, location, location.” Now it’s “location, execution of your business plan, and proper structure.” You can’t be in the fuel business and be a poor operator, or you won’t last long. People in this business are excellent operators. We’re in a pennies business; we’re selling a product that we bought for 3.10 and we’re selling it for 3.12 and then we have to pay the credit card companies their fee. We try to be as efficient as we can be. Everything we do at Petro Serve is to drive net operating costs down.
In 1998 I moved to Fargo and we had probably about three convenience stores and did about ten million in sales. Three years later we got involved more in the ethanols and we doubled in sales to 20 million. Three years later we doubled to 40 million. And three years later we doubled to 80 million. And three years later we doubled to 160 million.

It was 1911, and three men – O. C. Anderson, H. F. Nesne, who was Anderson’s uncle, and O. Skognes – incorporated Dakota Monument Company in the young state of North Dakota. They opened their doors at 101 Front Street (now Main Avenue) in Fargo, N.D. in February. Anderson operated Dakota Monument Company until his death in 1938. At that time, his son, Frederick S. Anderson, took it over.
David succeeded his father as the Dakota Monument Company owner in 1980. He remembers watching his father hand chisel letters and designs into stone in the small shop off the alley behind Dakota Monument for the company’s customers. Dave learned everything he could from his dad and the other craftsmen in the shop, as well as the business side of the company.
In 1994, Dave oversaw the construction of a new facility at 1212 24th Ave. South in Fargo, where Dakota Monument is still located. The fifth generation of Andersons entered the business in 2013. Today Dakota Monument Company is the only monument company in North Dakota invited to be one of 50 members of the American Institute of Commemorative Art. The company also has been a part of the Monument Builders of North America since 1982.
The family tradition at Dakota Monument continues with Dave, and sons, Dustin, Seth, and Scott.

Rich had been with T.R.S. Industries since it was established in 1983 until eventually transitioning into retirement in December of 2023. Rich can be found cruising around in classic cars and on the lake most likely out-fishing you any day!
T.R.S. Industries was started in 1983 in the garage of Roger Cossette, Rich’s father.
In 1989 the company expanded to the Fargo Industrial Park and built a building large enough to drive a Semi Truck or trailer into the shop for repairs and installations. In 1992 and 1995 we added to the existing building to more than double our space. In 2005 T.R.S. Industries expanded to add the Fabrics Division, which was located directly behind the existing building and used for new tarp production and custom covers.
In 2009, T.R.S. Industries added a new building which housed production and the majority of the offices. The new location was 1230 40th St N, Fargo, ND. T.R.S. still had their location at 4119 14th Ave N, which was used to house installation of tarps and repair on large truck tarps.
In 2013, T.R.S. Industries added 36,000 square feet onto their new building, which increased manufacturing space to 69,000 square feet. This new addition was used to house all of the employees under one roof, in order to serve customers more efficiently. T.R.S. manufactures many of the parts for Roll Tarp Systems and stocks a wide selection of replacement tarps, lumber tarps, and steel tarps.
Today, Rich’s son, Shane handles day-to-day operations, alongside several of the Cossette children. Congratulations, Rich!

Anthony founded Project Phoenix as a custom software development company in May of 2017, building platforms for customers across a myriad of markets: UAS, IoT, Education, Retail, Precision Agriculture, and Professional Services. Each platform Project Phoenix built leveraged a custom-created instant API engine and database hosting platform, Devii (devii.io), to trim hundreds of hours of API development down to just a few minutes.
“We began as a software development company and faced the same hurdles that every other dev team is facing: The software development industry is overworked and understaffed. In order to stay ahead of the curve, we developed Devii, which allowed us to instantly and securely generate APIs to any existing SQL database. This was a game changer for us, as it automated many of the tedious tasks that used to take up our team’s time. It has also been a cost saver, as we no longer need to spend the time it takes to write and manage every API.”
In 2022, Project Phoenix sunset custom software development to focus on commercializing Devii with the expectation of offsetting the global software engineer employment shortage while also improving the security and durability of API development for millions of engineers in the software development industry.
If you could go back in time to Anthony from several years ago, what hindsight advice would you give yourself?
“Put down the golf clubs and start pursuing something that you can meaningfully contribute your mind to.”
“Since I was about seven, I dreamed of becoming a professional golfer and I didn’t let that dream go until I was in my late 20s. Even after I had started a career in software development and even after it was clear my mind and energy would be better spent creating and enabling great ideas, I persisted. I look back at what I learned though, on having to give up something that I put so much time into, and it actually makes me smile; I understand now I bloom where I am planted and that expecting change is a super power for creating sustainability, both for myself and for the lives of those around me.” – Anthony 10 QUESTIONS WITH JOHN MACHACEK: FARGO INC! My roots are in small town North Dakota. This state and its people are important to me; I am proud to do business here, combining my skills in finance and management to lead a growing company that provides something essential to North Dakotans – tires, auto repair, parts, tracks and automotive equipment. O.K. Tire Store, Inc., now 15 locations and 210 employees strong, continues its 60-year legacy providing tires for cars, farm equipment, trucks and OTR (for personal, commercial and fleets). Originally a family-owned company, O.K. Tire is now employee-owned (ESOP), a conversion I helped to facilitate for the company owner before his retirement. I attended Mayville State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in business and management with an emphasis on accounting.
I am known for the traits of integrity, continuous process improvement, and accountability.
INTEGRITY
I believe in integrity: both employees and customers need to be treated fairly. Our sales and service people are fairly compensated and have access to in-house training leading to tire industry specialty certifications. Our customers deserve a great / good product at a fair price. We quote our prices in “out the door pricing” terms. Rather than quoting the price of the tires alone and then surprising them with charges for installation, balancing, etc., we disclose the “full” price of the tires, always. We think this is the fair thing to do: to let the customer know, up front, what their actual cost for the tires will be. No bate and switch; no misleading partial price disclosure.
CONTINUOUS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
There is always a better way to do something: a way that is more efficient; a way that makes better sense. Our company culture is designed to identify and implement new ideas to help us move forward. We believe that employees hold the key to identifying both potential problem areas and potential solutions. At every meeting, we listen. We solicit ideas. We implement changes and see if it works better; if not, we circle back and try something else.
ACCOUNTABILITY
We believe in doing the right thing – always. And I believe that doing what you say you’re going to do is essential. We actively model this for our employees and our company values stress the importance of being accountable as well. Because O.K. Tire Store, Inc. is an employee owned company, I am accountable for my own actions, the actions of the company and its employees, and the financial performance of the company. When we do well, every employee shares in our success.

Working to radically change the trajectory of entrepreneurs, their families, their businesses, and their teams.
“Let’s be real, everyone has money problems, no matter who you are. This is true for many reasons and is a massive grey cloud over most people walking around. I’ve worked with hundreds of families and know firsthand that doing money well is hard, but worth it. Furthermore, our world has never needed entrepreneurs more; to innovate and to create jobs and livelihoods for our communities heading into the years ahead. Yet, the stress and toll of entrepreneurship are heavy, just ask an entrepreneur. We work day in and day out to support the families and companies we work for, giving them the confidence and clarity they need to forge on and continue to create value so that at the end of the day they can go home and be with their families.
What is wealth? Wealth is being present and content with wherever you are with whoever is in front of you, not your net worth. My aim is for every person to be happy with money. Because, at the end of the day, we all just want to be happy.” – Tom

Andy joined Fargo Glass & Paint in 2016, after spending 18yrs in management with the family-owned Lavelle Company, including 18 months after the purchase by Parksite. Andy stepped into the role of President of Fargo Glass & Paint in 2020, just one year after the company become 100% employee-owned.
Fargo Glass & Paint Company Founder, E.J. Schonberg was fond of calling his company “The Friendly House”, the son of Swedish immigrants, Schonberg founded the Fargo Plate Glass Company in 1917 with $10,000 of borrowed money and absolutely no experience in the glass business.
The brand-new company announced itself to Fargo in an advertisement placed in the Fargo Forum newspaper on February 5, 1917. The ad claimed, “We know we’ll never get any more than we earn or deserve, and we expect to hustle for all we get!”.
We have a long-standing belief that the success of Fargo Glass and Paint Company is due to employees buying into the attributes the Company was founded on. It is also believed that the success of the Company should then be shared with employees who are key components in creating Company success. This Company belief of sharing with the employees came full circle in 2019 when Fargo Glass and Paint Company became 100% Employee Owned.
Fargo Glass and Paint Company currently has five locations to serve its customer base throughout the upper Midwest. Headquartered in Fargo, North Dakota, Fargo Glass and Paint Company has branches in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Minot & Bismarck, North Dakota along with a retail store located in Fargo, ND.

Greetings friend, my name is Jaymes O’Pheron.
Yep, Jaymes with a wye– or as I like to say – Jaymes with a why. “Why” is one of my favorite questions, and Iʼm an expert in asking questions.
I started out as a freelance web developer, though. I was good at it; I enjoyed the intellectual challenge. But I found myself burning out. In the process of exploring why and resolving the underlying issues, I discovered a passion for helping other nerds not kill themselves. As I gained experience, I found myself gravitating towards coaching other developers and helping them develop their skills more effectively. I particularly found satisfaction in leveraging my experience working 100% remotely and my communication expertise to help others make authentic connections online, even outside my industry.
Similarly, in my obsession (my wife might say addiction) with Toastmasters I’ve found myself gaining more fulfillment and satisfaction from coaching other speakers than from doing speeches myself — despite the fact that I love giving speeches. I also volunteer a great deal with and help lead addiction and recovery ministries, and then draw from that and my own experience with recovery to constantly help those around me.
When I realized all these things, it clicked for me, and I discovered that while web development was what I did, coaching is who I am. Now, I’m pivoting my focus from being a web developer to serving web developers, other remote professionals, and hybrid communities. There is a huge need right now with digital burnout on the rise and soft skills becoming not only a necessary edge in competitive markets but also becoming increasingly critical for survival. Depression is not just lost productivity.
So let me ask you a question.
How are you doing? Really doing? (‘Fine’ doesnʼt count. In all my experience, I have never encountered someone who was purely, truly, just ‘fine.’)
Do you want to do better? Let’s talk about hope, solutions, and your future.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you. 🙂

Since April 2019, FM Aerial & Movement Arts has offered aerial classes for the community to take part in. As the studio and variety of classes have evolved over the years, Owner Yvette Reyes has pushed through various challenges to continue her goal of offering a space for people to come and have support, community and fun.
FM Aerial & Movement Arts has and continues to grow in the community under Yvette’s leadership, but she accounts a lot of that to different mentors and friends along the way. The first time she visited the studio (that she now owns), she was a 20-year-old, fresh graduate from welding school, attending a pole class in 2016.
I create opportunities for people in the area to explore different styles of movement such as pole dance and aerial arts. The focus is to increase body awareness and appreciation facilitated through small group interactions. We believe movement is an art, and to dance is to enhance quality of life.

With over 25 years of leadership experience I’ve seen how easy it is to get in your own way. How painful burnout is. The enormous difference a system that works makes for success and scale. Growing up in the small Minnesotan town of East Grand Forks, Dr. Rachel Nelson had a lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. After receiving chiropractic care for a sports injury she sustained while participating in high school hockey, she later fell in love with how the human body heals itself. Her primary goal is to assist patients in recovering and returning to their jobs, hobbies, and daily lives.
Prior to finishing her Doctorate of Chiropractic with a Sports Emphasis at Northwestern Health Sciences in Bloomington, Minnesota, where she received her degree in 2020, Dr. Nelson earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Dakota. Dr. Nelson was a practicing associate doctor, and, after spending two and a half years earning invaluable experience, she is now eager to further service the Fargo-Moorhead community with her own practice. Dr. Nelson has assisted patients ranging in age from newborns to those who are 100 years old with a variety of problems, including colic in newborns, athletes getting back in the game, teenagers dealing with anxiety, people working desk jobs with neck discomfort, and many others. Every patient who enters Dr. Nelson’s office receives the greatest care possible because she is enthusiastic about it. She wants to identify the source of your issue and support you in leading the best possible life.
When she is not at the office, she enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her wife Nicole, daughter Atlas, and two dogs named Brew and Denali. Hockey, hunting, being outside, and spending as much time at the lake as possible are other activities that Dr. Nelson enjoys.

I am dedicated to empowering small businesses to thrive by optimizing their processes, enhancing their offerings, and fostering growth in their local community. With a track record of delivering scalable results and exceeding client expectations, I specialize in driving sales, increasing operational efficiency, and elevating customer experiences.
Having built a business from the ground up, I intimately understand the challenges small business owners face daily. Through years of experience, I have honed my expertise in process automation, operational optimization, financial clarity, and client management systems. My passion lies in helping business owners achieve their goals, nurture their employees, and ultimately boost profitability.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I am driven by a thirst for knowledge and a willingness to embrace challenges. I firmly believe that it is better to give than to receive, that personal growth begins just outside of our carefully constructed comfort zones, and that incremental changes often lead to exponential gains, just as a journey of 1,000 miles begins with one step.
If you’re seeking to propel your business forward and are ready for the next step, let’s connect and explore the possibilities together.

Regardless of the topic of conversation at the clubhouse, Kurt can usually chime in with, “I used to do that!”, to which someone will typically reply…”Where haven’t you worked?”.
Farmhand; Pizza Guy; Bobcat Operator; Camera Operator; Taxi Driver; Bartender; Floor Director; Head Slicer; Playtown Leader; Store Manager; Dept. Manager; Sales Manager; Visual Display Coordinator; Member Representative; VP-Marketing; Business Development; Consultant; Owner; Founder; Owner; Founder; Partner; Partner; etc., etc., etc.,…but always willing to fill the position of General Laborer.
In 2010, Kurt accepted a “dream job”, that combined several of his passions; small business, entrepreneurship, growth, change and US politics. A few years of enthusiasm and success were lost to the bureaucracy and eye-opening realizations. On August 14, 2015, he left the position he’d once loved and put the idea of a local business, growth and leadership initiative on the table at a downtown Fargo coffee meeting. That morning, The 100, Inc. was formed, now doing business as The Executives’ Club of Fargo-Moorhead.
Kurt’s title, today, he says is, simply…”student, helper, idea guy and connector”.
What is your favorite thing about your professional life? “Each day, I get to have impactful and powerful conversations with some of the area’s best business leaders, plus I get to lend a hand in their innovation, their creativity and, hopefully, their fulfillment.”
Kurt has also held a seat on the Editorial Board of Fargo INC! Business Magazine since 2020. Today, the Executives’ Club, NELCO First Aid, Inc. and ProTek, Inc. operate from a non-descript bunker in West Fargo known as The Grindstone, because, (from a favorite quote)…“Life is a grindstone. Whether it grinds us down or polishes us up, depends on what we’re made of.”
