ABOUT | Cindy moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area after high school and originally planned to build a career in the medical field. But by the age of 19, after working in a hotel and travel agency in the area, she realized her passion was travel. Beginning in the mid-1980s, Tyo worked as a travel agency manager in Crookston, MN, and Fargo-Moorhead. Tyo then spent several years in Los Angeles, CA, before returning to Fargo – first to manage her current agency, then becoming the agency’s owner in 2003.
Cindy has found herself in elite and rarified company, as one of the only people ever to win both of Travel Leaders’ highest honors: Associate of the Year and The Golden Legacy Award. The Golden Legacy Award ranks as the single highest honor any Travel Leaders Associate may receive and celebrates the award winner’s lifetime career achievements.
How does the reality of your job differ from people’s perception of it?
Because I travel the world for work: I’m just on vacation. In some ways it makes sense, as I truly love what I do, but I’m putting in 12-14 hour days in meeting rooms and on busses when I travel for work, like most people who travel for work. I just so happen to be having my meetings in Cancun or Prague!
What’s your “why”?
The moment I see everything I love about travel in someone else’s expression for the first time. Like my son when he got done bungee jumping for the first time in New Zealand to observing the transformation of a client as they conquer their fear of heights to go zip lining in Costa Rica. The knowledge and experience gained, and the doors opened through travel is priceless.

As a founder of three companies, I have a passion for creating innovative solutions that solve real problems and generate value for customers and stakeholders.
I have a degree in marketing and finance from Minnesota State University Moorhead, which gives me a solid foundation in both fields and enables me to apply my skills in various contexts and industries. I have over 6.5 years of work experience in marketing, sales, and management, leading and growing teams, developing and executing strategies, and delivering results.
Some of my achievements include launching Chezy, a platform that connects chefs and food lovers, in 2021, DoTell, a social app that encourages honest and meaningful conversations, in 2022, and Advertise Edge, a digital marketing agency that helps businesses grow their online presence, in 2017.
I am always looking for new opportunities and challenges to learn, grow, and make an impact. My core competencies are creativity, leadership, communication, and problem-solving. My mission is to create products and services that improve people’s lives and make the world a better place. My field of expertise is marketing, especially in the digital and social media domains. My values and goals are to be ethical, innovative, customer-centric, and collaborative.
Joe attended Minnesota State University Moorhead studying finance & marketing. He was very active on campus as a football player and part of many student organizations. He racked up 6 internships for various positions by his junior year which became boring to him so he started Advertise Edge in 2017.

I’m going to tell you a little story about how Beyond Marketing came to be. It was, quite literally, an accident. In 2019 I was at Thai Orchid (YUM, right?) in Moorhead with a committee for the Moorhead Businesses Association. I was already managing my friend’s Facebook business page for fun + a little creativity that I had been missing. A friend of mine was at this same meeting (Hi, Cindy) and we got talking about what I was doing for my other friend’s Facebook page. She asked if I would meet with one of her company’s board of directors to take on their social media. I almost said no. Imposter syndrome was alive + well. But, I enjoy torture so I said yes and put myself in a very uncomfortable situation. I’ve been handling their socials for 2+ years and it’s the best decision (in business, my husband and daughter are pretty cool) I’ve made. From there, two clients turned to four. Then Covid hit and four turned to seven. And it hasn’t stopped…I’m so grateful to my clients for trusting me to tell their stories, show off their brand, and display their work. I’m biased – but I have the absolute best clients. I am so glad you’re here and I’m looking forward to meeting you!
